Entropic Tendencies: releasing body // receiving body, 2023
Photocopy drawings on A3 Paper

I’ve been developing my own notational language exploring the transductive relations and experiential intimacies of performance, as generated in physical space between the participating individuals. Each of the two topological knots in the sequence of drawings represents one of the two instruments, each tuned to a unique microtonal system. Rather than denote pitch, tempo, or duration etc., the score outlines the relational intensities between the two musicians. Their sound eventually decomposes into a blended whole at the end, symbolising the infinite density of a black hole.
These graphic scores were used as the foundation for a(n undocumented) live performance titled double hunger // transcendent third: the interfusion of forces as they dissolve in time, during Städelschule Rundgang 2023.
The “double hunger” was formed by the interplay of one guitarist and one bassist. A third guitarist acted as the “transcendent third” - the energy that emerges from the interaction between the other two instruments. This music provided the backdrop for an experimental script performed by two untrained actors. The script takes a similar form to the music: both actors speak simultaneously, their speech falling in and out of sync’ to begin with, eventually merging into a synchronised duet.
Both script and graphic score allow space for improvisation, fostering a sense of active exchange and participation amongst the performers who must adjust their actions to accommodate the others.
